Important Notes when renewing or applying for your UK / British Passport
• Your existing passport must be lodged with your renewal application
• Adhere to the photo requirements: No facial expression, no teeth showing, no hair in face, preferably no spectacles.
• When signing keep well within the designated area - do not touch the sides
• If additional documents are needed - it must be the originals.
• First time applicants may have to go to the British High Commission for a personal interview

DOCUMENTS TO INCLUDE IF YOU ARE APPLYING FOR A FIRST BRITISH PASSPORT
British nationality is a complicated subject. If you are applying for a British passport for the first time, you will need to provide additional information.
If you think you are eligible for a British passport, please provide as much documentation as possible. In addition to the appropriate passport application form, photographs and fee, please also provide any documents you think might be necessary or helpful in demonstrating your claim. These might include birth, marriage, naturalisation and adoption certificates of you, your parents, grandparents or guardians.
You may also need to supply documentation to prove your identity to show you are the rightful holder of the nationality-related documents, such as birth, marriage, naturalisation and registration certificates. Family photographs, medical records, educational records, financial records for example, can all be helpful in establishing who you are if necessary.
The following notes are meant as a guide to the documentation required in the most common cases. It is not an exhaustive list. If your circumstances are not covered here, the British Home Office website contains comprehensive guidance on British Nationality. You may wish to research your claim at www.homeoffice.gov.uk.

Only the original documents, issued by the competent authority. Are accepted. If you apply and it is determined that you have no entitlement to a British passport, your fee will not be refunded.
IF YOU WERE BORN BEFORE 1 JANUARY 1983 IN THE UK
you must also provide:
Your full unabridged UK birth certificate.
Photo ID (or a certified copy)
IF YOU WERE BORN BEFORE 1 JANUARY 1983 OUTSIDE THE UK
you must also provide:
Your full foreign birth certificate - or your original consular birth certificate.
Your father’s full unabridged UK birth certificate.
Your parents full unabridged marriage certificate. This must state Bachelor/ Spinster. If it was not a first time marriage for either parent we will need to see the death or divorce certificates of all the previous marriages.
Photo ID (or a certified copy)
IF YOU WERE BORN AFTER 1 JANUARY 1983 IN THE UK
you must also provide:
Your full unabridged UK birth certificate, showing details of parents and registration date
Your mother's full unabridged UK birth certificate, showing details of parents and registration date or
Your father's full unabridged UK birth certificate, showing details of parents and registration date and your parents' marriage certificate.
Photo ID (or a certified copy)
IF YOU WERE BORN AFTER 1 JANUARY 1983 OUTSIDE THE UK
you must also provide:
