More Post Office where Gauteng motorists can renew car licenses

Johannesburg. – The SA Post Office and Gauteng Department of Transport announced today that the facility for renewing motor-vehicle licences is now available at an extra 94 Post Offices in Gauteng.

This brings the total number of Post Offices offering the service in Gauteng to 259.

According to Ndala Mnisi of the Post Office, the motor-vehicle licence renewal facility at these new Post Offices is already functioning. Gauteng motorists have renewed more than 17 000 car licences at Post Offices in the past three months.

Gauteng MEC of Roads and Transport Ismael Vadi said in comment that the Gauteng Government aims to make government services accessible to the people of the province. The province’s partnership with the Post Office brings the service within easy reach and extends hours for renewals.

The Post Offices are open on Saturday mornings and some on Sundays according to Mnisi.

No extra commission is payable on a vehicle licence renewed at a Post Office.

Motorists must produce a printed renewal notice to renew a motor vehicle licence. Those without a renewal notice can complete the relevant documentation for the license to be processed, but will need their identity documents.

Motorists with traffic fines from the Tshwane, Ekhurleni, Potchefstroom, Ethikwini and Cape Town Metropoles can pay their fines at any Post Office countrywide. They can also find out at the Post Office whether they have outstanding fines by giving the Post Office teller their car registration number or identity number.

Mnisi said that the Post Office constantly develops new services to meet the connectivity needs of the nation and partners with government to provide services to the public.
