My licence has expired what are the penalties?
There is a grace period of 21 days to pay your licence after it has expired, after the grace period you have to pay the licence fees in arrears as well as a penalty. A easy way to calculate the penalties and the outstanding licence fees is to take your annual licence fee and calculate 15% of the licence fee. Add the 15% of the annual licence fee for each month you are in arrears. Then add the annual licence fee for the following 12 months. This will give a good indication of your licence fees due.
I have moved from another province how do I renew my vehicle licence?

Description:
All motor vehicles operating on public roads should have their licence renewed annually. It is the responsibility of the vehicle owner to ensure that the vehicle licence is renewed. Failure to renew the motor vehicle licence will result in penalties.

About renewing your motor vehicle licence

You must renew your motor vehicle licence every year before it expires. If you fail to renew your licence, you will be liable to pay late licensing penalties and arrears.

You get a 21-day grace period if you have not renewed the expired motor vehicle licence. The grace period is calculated from the expiry date of the current licence disc. You must renew your motor vehicle licence at your appropriate registering authority or at a selected post office that is located within your jurisdiction.

Bi-annual motor vehicle licence renewal:

Buses are subject to renewing their licence discs every six months due to their certification of roadworthiness which is valid for six (6) months only.

What you should do

If your vehicle is used for public transport or is a heavy load motor vehicle, a certification of roadworthiness must be done. If not, the licence and roadworthy certificate disc will not print.

Go to your nearest registering authority or selected post offices and take the following with if you are an individuals:

your identity document

motor vehicle licence renewal notice (MVL2). If you do not have the renewal notice, complete form ALV (Application for Licensing of Motor Vehicle)

If you are an organisations, bring the following:

How to Estimate Licensing Fees in Arrears.

• Take Tarra weight of vehicle as found on license disk.

• Get license fee from weight band.

• Work out 15% of license fee.

• Times the 15% amount with the amount of mounts in arrear.
